Head of Turkey, Caucasus and Central Asia Department (since 2001). His main research areas have been security and stability issues in these regions, as well as cultural and identity changes there. Has extensively published on Turkish foreign policy, and political developments in South Caucasus and Central Asia.

Organizer and coordinator of OSW China Programme (2018-2022), OSW Israel Research Programme (2019-2022), and number of OSW research projects focused on Middle East (Iran – since 1999, “war on terror” and conflicts in Afghanistan – since 2001, Iraq – since 2003, Kurdish studies – since 2006, Arab Spring) and Islam (e.g. Islam in post-Soviet space 2003-04).

Visiting fellow with the Middle East Institute’s Black Sea Program (Washington DC, 2023), non-resident fellow at the MEI.

Lecturer at the Centre for East European Studies (University of Warsaw)
